Madison High School moves to Level Two due to increase in active COVID-19 cases

One of the Madison Central School buildings is moving up a level and requiring face coverings because of an increase in active COVID-19 cases.  Superintendent Joel Jorgenson said Monday that Madison High School had six students or staff members test positive for COVID-19, putting the total number of active cases in the high school at eight.  Starting Tuesday, Jorgenson said that the high school moves to a Level Two status and face coverings will be required for students and staff at Madison High School.

Jorgenson said that currently there are not any active COVID-19 cases in Madison Elementary School, and one in Madison Middle School.

During Monday’s school board meeting, Jorgenson also reviewed the number of cases that the district has had since the start of the school year.

As far as Lake County, on Monday the state Department of Health reported 159 active COVID-19 cases.  Active cases statewide were more than 17-thousand, and 307 people were hospitalized with COVID-19.  Another six deaths were also reported Monday.

All of the counties in the state are currently listed as having high community spread of the virus at this time.Â
