City Warns of Fraud Calls

The City of Madison is warning citizens to be aware of fraudulent callers. Their latest tactic is offering fake discounts for on-time electric bill payments to City of Madison residents.

They’ll start by saying you’ve paid your electric bill on time for several months and promise a discount if you say “YES” to confirm. The CIty of Madison is not offering discounts for bills paid on time.  

If you receive a suspicious call you should hang up immediately and call the Public Utilities Department at (605) 256-7504 to confirm if the call received was from them. The city urges you to not engage with scammers or disclose personal information. 

The city is actively monitoring reports of these calls and will investigate as needed
