County to install new phone system

The Lake County Commission has approved an agreement to upgrade the county’s phone system.  Commissioners on Tuesday approved an invoice and maintenance agreement for the new phone system from Gordon Flesch Company of Cedar Falls, Iowa.  The invoice includes a one-time amount of just more than 21-thousand dollars.  This includes the installation and training, as well as a one-year warranty for the system.

The County’s Extension Office and Highway Department are currently on independent phone systems, so for them to tie into the new system they will need a Virtual Private Network (or VPN) connection with the county courthouse.  This will cost each of the departments 150-dollars per month.

Also during their meeting on Tuesday, county commissioners, acting as a board of adjustment, approved a conditional use application for a change in ownership of a Class “B” CAFO in the county.  Boadwine Farms of Sioux Falls recently purchased an existing dairy – Cederberg Dairy – located northeast of Ramona.
