Shaver sentenced to penitentiary time on Aggravated Assault charge

A Madison man will serve time in the state penitentiary on a felony Aggravated Assault charge.  33-year-old Gary Shaver was sentenced this week in Lake County Circuit Court on the charge for an incident that occurred in March of 2021.

Shaver was indicted on several charges last year and pleaded guilty to the Aggravated Assault charge as part of a plea agreement in which the other charges were dismissed.  Shaver also admitted to being a habitual offender, which changed his charge from a Class Three to a Class Two felony.

Circuit Judge Pat Pardy sentenced Shaver to serve 25 years in the state penitentiary, suspending eight years of the sentence based on several conditions.  Some of the conditions include that Shaver pay a fine of five-hundred dollars plus court costs, make restitution of more than 52-hundred dollars, and reimburse Lake County for the cost of his court-appointed attorney’s fees.  The judge gave Shaver credit for 314 days he had already served on the charge.
