Lake County Commission Discusses Highway Department Budget Cuts

The Lake County Commission held its regular meeting yesterday, and several topics were discussed. One of the major topics they discussed was the budget for the 2024 Fiscal year. Some major cuts to the budget were proposed for the year. The majority of the cuts were made to the highway department. County administrative director Shelli Gust spoke on why these budget cuts are being made.

 

 

Highway Superintendent Nel’s Nelson spoke at the meeting and urged the county to be careful when it comes to cutting employees and stressed the importance of the highway department.

 

 

The county’s overall proposed budget as of now is $9,186,009 total.  The proposed cuts to the highway budget would make it  $722,198 less than last year. The budget is not finalized yet and will be discussed at the next meeting on August 1st.
