County approves re-zoning of lake property

Lake County Commissioners approved the re-zoning of some property near Lake Madison and Long Lake during their meeting on Tuesday.

Smith’s Cove, LLC, represented by Dan Lemme and Eric Johnson, requested to re-zone property from the current agricultural zoning to a combination of Lake Park-1 and Lake Park-3.  According to the re-zoning application, Lemme asked for the re-zoning in order to facilitate planned development.  That development includes, according to Lemme, close to 75-acres of single family residential properties and more than 22 acres of campground use adjacent to Long Lake.

A public hearing on the re-zoning ordinance was held before commissioners approved it Tuesday.  A couple of property owners near the proposed re-zoned area expressed concerns about some of the property being used for a campground.  They were told that Smith’s Cove will need to apply for a conditional use permit for a campground and were encouraged to voice their objections to that at that time.

Also during their meeting Tuesday, commissioners approved a new license application for Snake Eyes Casino in Chester.  Commissioners approved the application for a Retail (on-off sale) Malt Beverage and South Dakota Farm Wine license for the casino.  Commission Administrative Officer Shelli Gust said that a malt beverage license is required by the state in order to operate video lottery machines at the casino. Â
