City approves company to document historic creek walls

A North Dakota company will document the historic walls of Memorial Creek in Madison that are scheduled for repair.  The city of Madison is planning repairs to three different sites as part of its Park Creek project after the 2019 flood.  Ryan Hegg, Director of Engineering and Community Development, told Madison City Commissioners this week that the State Historic Preservation Office determined that the project is going to have adverse effects on two of the sites included in the project.

Commissioners approved Beaver Creek Archaeology of Bismarck, North Dakota to do the mitigation work at an estimated cost of $8750.

Hegg told commissioners more of what work will be done at each of the sites in question.

Commissioners Monday also approved a proposal from Geotek Engineering and Testing Services of Sioux Falls to do geotechnical exploration work on the three sites.

The first site where work on the creek walls is planned is located north of 7th Street in Madison.

Overall the creek wall repairs at the three sites is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
