All Madison Central School buildings moved to Level Two; face coverings required

Students and staff in all three buildings within the Madison Central School District will now be required to wear face coverings because of a higher number of active COVID-19 cases.  Superintendent Joel Jorgenson sent information to parents and guardians Monday stating that starting today, the Madison Elementary School would join the Middle and High Schools at Level Two status.  Madison High School started at Level Two a week ago, and the Middle School moved levels on Friday.  According to the school district’s Back to School Plan, a building can be moved to Level Two if the number of active COVID-19 cases within the building equals one-and-a-half-percent of the student population.  Each building will be able to move back to Level One once the number of active cases drop back below one-percent or less.

As of Monday, the district reported seven students or staff members at Madison Elementary School had tested positive for COVID-19, while there were three new positive cases at the Middle School and eight at the High School.

These additional positive COVID-19 cases put the number of active cases at the Elementary School at ten, with eleven active cases each at the Middle and High Schools.

The state Department of Health did not update statewide COVID-19 information on Monday because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.Â
