City awards bid for street improvement project

Madison City Commissioners this week took action on a couple of items regarding utility and street improvements for Northwest 9th Street in Madison.

Commissioners awarded the bid for the project to Winter Contracting of Brookings, who was the low bidder at just less than three-and-a-half million dollars.  City Administrator Jameson Berreth told commissioners that this was below the engineer’s estimate for the project.  He said that this is the second time the city requested bids for the Northwest 9th Street project.

Berreth said that the utility and street improvement project on Northwest 9th Street will take place this fall and next year.

Ryan Hegg, Madison’s Director of Engineering and Community Development, told the commission that the first part of the project will include the area from Chicago Avenue west to Highland Avenue and will start on August 15th.

Also during Tuesday’s meeting, city commissioners approved a Construction Management Services agreement with Banner Associates for engineering construction services for the Northwest 9th Street improvements project.
