Area young people interested in flying will have an opportunity for a free airplane ride and to learn more about aviation on Saturday at the Madison Municipal Airport.
Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 289 is hosting a Young Eagles Flight Rally at the Madison Airport Saturday for kids ages eight to seventeen. The rally is part of the EAA Young Eagles program, which was created to get young people interested in aviation.
Pilots at the event will explain more about their airplanes allowing those attending to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety is the prime concern before every flight.
Following the flight, each young person taking part will receive a certificate making them an official Young Eagle. Their name will then be entered into the “World’s Largest Logbook,” which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Those attending the flight rally Saturday are asked to be at the Madison Airport starting at noon to register for their flight. Flights will begin at 12:10 p.m. until registration closes at 4:00 p.m.
Saturday’s event will then be followed by an Air Show at the airport. The Air Show takes place from 5:00 until 7:00. There will be a burger meal available also at the airport for five dollars from 4:00 until 7:00 on Saturday.
