Winter storm to impact the state this week

A major winter storm will impact South Dakota and the region for most of the work week, beginning today (Monday).
National Weather Service forecaster Mike Connolly said there are Winter Storm Watches, Winter Storm Warnings, Winter Weather Advisories and Ice Storm Warnings posted for various parts of South Dakota.

The storm begins Monday, with precipitation falling as freezing rain, which could make travel difficult.
By Tuesday, the freezing rain changes to snow.

Snowfall amounts will be difficult to pin down, but there’ll be enough to shovel.

Connolly said there will be a lot of wind also.

After the storm pushes out on Thursday, some very cold air moves in.

For northeast South Dakota, close to a foot of snow could fall in some places.

In south central South Dakota, snowfall totals could approach two feet.
