Five more COVID-19 deaths were reported in the state over the weekend.  The total number of virus-related deaths now stands at 1933 since the start of the pandemic.

More than 400 new positive COVID-19 cases were also reported by the state Department of Health.  The number of active cases in the state decreased some to just more than 24-hundred as of Sunday, but the number of people hospitalized increased to 80. 

Lake County reported two new positive COVID-19 cases and fourteen recovered cases.  The number of active cases in the county decreased to 55 as of Sunday. 

Elsewhere in our area, McCook County’s active cases decreased to 18 over the weekend and Moody County’s number remained at four.  Miner County reported an increase of one to 11 active cases, Kingsbury County increased to 64, and Brookings County reported 128 active COVID-19 cases as of Sunday.

The state Department of Health also reported that 42-percent of the state’s population had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 27-percent had completed their vaccination series.
