Another eight COVID-19 deaths were reported in the state on Thursday. The state Department of Health reported that overall 1872 South Dakota residents have died with COVID-19.  More than 150 new positive COVID-19 cases were also reported Thursday, putting the state’s overall total of positive cases at close to 112-thousand since the start of the pandemic.  Of those positive cases, 1948 are currently active and 100 people are hospitalized. 

Lake County reported one new positive COVID-19 case on Thursday and a total of 30 active cases.

In our area counties, Kingsbury County had 19 active cases as of Thursday, Miner County reported 10, and McCook and Moody counties each reported eight active COVID-19 cases.  Brookings County had one of the COVID-19 deaths reported Thursday and also reported 58 active cases at this time. 

Overall, the state Department of Health reported that 23-percent of the state’s population had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and close to 12-percent had received both doses.
