Influenza cases in the state continue to rise.  State Epidemiologist Dr. Joshua Clayton says the death of a ten-year-old Hartford boy this week is the first child to die of flu-related complications this winter.  Clayton said that other deaths from influenza in the state have all been in people over the age of 50.

So far, Dr. Clayton says the state hasn’t seen any signs of the coronavirus.

Clayton says that puts South Dakota in a small group nationally.

In the U.S., there have been fifteen confirmed cases of coronavirus, with one death.  Globally, the virus has caused more than 21-hundred deaths.
