South Dakota FFA Agriscience Fair Next Week
Next week, the South Dakota FFA Agriscience Fair will be held at West Central High School.
The fair will showcase FFA members from across the state of South Dakota, and their research projects involving the science and technology of agriculture. There will be 227 FFA members in attendance, with 154 total projects for this year’s competition.
The fair helps to recognize students who are able to gain real-world, hands-on experiences in agricultural enterprises. Students use scientific principles and emerging technologies to solve problems related to agriculture, food, and natural resources.
The six categories that FFA members complete their research in are: Animal Systems, Environmental Natural Resource Systems, Food Products and Processing Systems, Plant Systems, Power, Structural, and Technical Systems, and also Social Systems.
Each category has six divisions that are split up by age group and number of participants.
Student projects include a written report and an in-person display and presentation to judges. State finalists will be announced at the conclusion of the in-person judging, and will earn a cash prize.
The winners in each division will be announced with awards presented at the State FFA Convention on April 18th in Brookings, SD, with those projects advancing for the national level competition.
The agriscience fair for middle and high school students will be next week on Wednesday, April 5th at West Central High School in Hartford, SD.
