SD Attorney General wants to see changes to criminal reform bill

The legislative session starts its second week today in Pierre.

Making changes to a criminal reform bill passed in 2016 is a priority for South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg during the 2020 legislative session.

Ravnsborg says the bill, Senate Bill 70, allowing the use of presumptive probation, gets in the way of drug enforcement.

Ravnsborg says drug offenses should add up and be more restrictive.

Ravnsborg says the current law doesn’t allow judges much discretion.

Ravnsborg says he also is backing legislation to make drug treatment more widely available.
