Record number of COVID-19 deaths reported in state over weekend
A record number of COVID-19 deaths were reported over the weekend. The state Department of Health reported that 76 South Dakota residents had died since Friday. This puts the state’s total number of COVID-19 deaths at 644.
More than three-thousand new positive COVID-19 cases were reported also over the weekend. The number of active cases statewide is now at 19-thousand-360, and 553 people are currently hospitalized.
In Lake County, another 43 new positive COVID-19 cases were reported since Friday. There were also 33 recovered cases in the county. Overall, Lake County had 688 total positive COVID-19 cases, 441 recovered, and nine deaths. Active cases in Lake County were at 238 as of Sunday.
In our area, McCook County reported six additional COVID-19 deaths and a total of 197 active cases, while Moody County had two additional deaths and 108 active cases. Kingsbury County reported 133 active COVID-19 cases Sunday, Miner County had 41, and Brookings County had 550 active cases, and one additional death.
