Madison Fire Department responds to calls

The Madison Fire Department responded to a couple of calls on Tuesday.

Fire Chief Randy Minnaert said the first call was at 4:00 Tuesday morning at The Courtyard residence hall on the Dakota State University campus.  Minnaert said that there was heavy smoke in the building that turned out to be from some unattended food.  He said that firefighters were on scene for around 45 minutes getting the smoke cleared out of the building so they could re-set the alarm system.

The second call Tuesday was for a car fire.  Minnaert said that firefighters responded to the vehicle fire in a parking lot in the 500-block of Southeast 8th Street on Tuesday evening around 6:30.  He said the engine compartment of the 2002 Buick LeSabre was completely engulfed when firefighters arrived and the car was a total loss.
