Madison City Commission exploring change in meeting frequency and time

The Madison City Commission is considering changing how often it meets, as well as the time of its meetings.

On Monday, City Administrator Jameson Berreth told commissioners that he researched other cities of Madison’s similar size and found that most meet just twice a month.

Commissioner Kelly Dybdahl said he’d like to have the commission look at meeting less often or at a different time.

Commissioners discussed the possibility of moving the meetings to Wednesdays, and suggested that Berreth check with the local Ministerial Association to get their opinion on it.  Commissioners also asked Berreth to check with city staff to get their feelings on when meetings work for them as well.

Commissioner Adam Shaw said he’d like to see the commission try something different.

Mayor Marshall Dennert said he’d still like to see commissioners meet on a weekly basis.

It was suggested that the commission try meeting twice a month in January, with one at 12:30 and one at 5:30 and see how it works for everyone involved.

Berreth said he will talk with those the commissioners asked him to and bring the issue back for discussion at a future meeting.Â
