Madison Central School District reports seven new positive COVID-19 cases

The Madison Central School District reported seven new positive COVID-19 cases on Monday.  The district reported two students or staff members at Madison Middle School had tested positive, but that there were no school close contacts with the cases.

The other five positive COVID-19 cases were reported in Madison Elementary School.  Superintendent Joel Jorgenson reported that two of the elementary school cases are from the same household.  He said that two of the elementary cases involve close contact tracing, while three of them have no school close contacts. 

These latest new positive COVID-19 cases put Madison Elementary School at five active cases, and both the Middle and High Schools at two.

As for Lake County, there were 60 active COVID-19 cases as of Monday.  The county remains in the high community spread category, according to the state Department of Health.  Other area counties also with high community spread include McCook, Moody, Kingsbury and Brookings counties.  Miner County is reported to have low community spread of the virus. 

Statewide as of Monday, there were more than 72-hundred active COVID-19 cases and 234 people hospitalized.  The state’s death toll is now at 2328 since the start of the pandemic.
