Madison Aquatic Center running smoothly

The Madison Aquatic Center has been up and running for just more than a week now and city officials say all is going smoothly so far.  The Aquatic Center opened on May 28th for the first time since being closed in 2020 because of COVID-19 and 2021 due to mechanical issues.  City Administrator Jameson Berreth told city commissioners during their meeting Monday that they estimated around 200 people utilized the outdoor pool facility during the first week of operation, even with a few days of poor weather.

As far as lifeguards, Berreth said that they are getting more on staff.

Berreth said that they need at least 25 to operate the Aquatic Center under the full normal hours.  Currently, the pool is open under limited hours, which are 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. every day, with additional evening hours on Friday and Saturday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m.

Berreth said that many people are responsible for the Madison Aquatic Center’s being able to successfully open again.

Berreth said that swimming lessons at the outdoor pool have also been at or near capacity so far, and they have had a number of people also booking birthday parties at the pool. Â
