Legislature to start considering bills regarding eminent domain

The state legislature will begin considering bills regarding eminent domain and proposed carbon dioxide pipelines in the state.

During the Republican Leadership news conference Thursday, Republican House Majority Leader Will Mortenson said the legislature will begin consideration of bills that restrict the private use of condemnation for right-of-ways, and he expects the debate to be both informative and emotional. Mortenson said that the issue puts legislators in a bind.

Eight bills are pending related to eminent domain.

The first hearing on the bills will begin Monday in the House State Affairs Committee.
