Legislature Final Week

As the last week rolls along at the SD Legislature, there are few committee meetings, numerous caucuses, and conference committees, the legislative chambers spend a lot of time in recess as things get worked out.

Some of the Bills passed include:

SB45 which passed 65 to 4. The bill appropriates just over $3 million to establish a Center for Quantum Information Science and Technology. The bill now goes to the governor.

The House amended SB137. It is another attempt by the House to remove the sunset provision of the 0.3% sales tax decrease passed last session. House supporters said they were sending a “message” to the Senate to make the 4.2% sales tax permanent. The bill passed 63 to 7. Way back on Jan. 18th, the Senate Appropriations Committee tabled the same bill.

The House passed a bill allocating $7 million through the attorney general’s office to be used by cities and counties to counter cybersecurity threats. The vote was 66 to 4. The measure now goes to the governor.
