Lake County property owner expresses concerns about proposed pipeline

A Lake County property owner is expressing concerns about a proposed CO2 pipeline that is planned to go through the southwestern portion of the county.  Summit Carbon Solutions is partnering with more than 30 ethanol plants across a five-state region to capture carbon dioxide and channel it to North Dakota, where it will be permanently stored underground.  The group has filed an application for a permit with the state Public Utilities Commission.

Betty Strom, who owns farm land in the county, appeared before Lake County Commissioners during their meeting this week asking for them to consider the safety concerns of the pipeline.

Strom told commissioners that she would like there to be setback requirements for the pipeline.

Strom asked commissioners to take action to protect county residents.

Strom also encouraged commissioners to contact the state’s PUC with any concerns for areas they don’t think the county should be responsible for. Â
