Lake County Commission Applies for Grants to Enhance Court Security

Lake County Commissioners, at their regular meeting on Tuesday, authorized the Courthouse Security Committee to apply for two grants from the South Dakota Unified Judicial System. The UJS received five-million dollars in one-time funding from the Legislature during the 2022 legislative session, to enhance the court security grant program.

Lake County will be applying for a grant to replace 13 interior doors, at a total cost of one-hundred and thirteen-thousand, one-hundred dollars. If approved the grant would pay for 75-percent of that cost. The county will also be applying for a grant for improvements to the security camera system. Improvements would include upgrades to hardware and software, as well as networking equipment. Total cost for that project would be just over 45-thousand, seven-hundred dollars. If approved the grant would also pay for 75 percent of that cost.

Other action taken by county commissioners on Tuesday included the approval of a Plat for Wentworth Township, subdividing a lot for future single family residential development in the Lake Park District. The Commission also approved a Temporary Special On-Sale Liquor License for Hef’s Bar & Grill in Chester. Hef’s will be providing beverages for a Cancer Benefit for Pete Thompson being held this Saturday in the Chester Fire Hall from 5 to 11pm.Â
