Lake County Commission addresses storm related zoning issues

Lake County Commissioners took action during their meeting Tuesday to help with zoning issues involved with property owners’ re-building after last Thursday’s storm.

Zoning Officer Mandi Anderson said that she wanted direction on how to handle building permit fees for those replacing or repairing damaged structures from the storm.  Commissioners authorized Anderson to develop an administrative policy with respect to how to handle building permit fees related to storm damage.  Commission Administrative Officer Shelli Gust said that the policy Anderson puts together will go through the State’s Attorney’s Office for review and then will be in place going forward for her to handle these issues.

Anderson also talked with county commissioners about how to handle requests for temporary housing options for those who are not able to live in their home because of the damage.  The commission authorized Anderson to establish a permit policy for temporary housing relief, including RV’s and trailers, while a property owner’s home is being repaired.  Anderson said that this will only apply for those whose primary residence was damaged by the storm.
