Lake County approves new hires and other personnel items

The Lake County Commission took action on several personnel items during its meeting on Tuesday.

Commissioners approved the hiring of three new employees – two full-time and one part-time temporary employee.

The county’s Treasurer’s Office requested approval to hire Takenric Harmdierks to fill the Deputy Treasurer II position.  Commissioners approved the hiring of Harmdierks at a rate of $16.25 an hour effective September 20th.  They also approved allowing Harmdierks to work some part-time hours before that in order to start some training before her official start date.

The county’s Auditor’s Office requested approval to hire Crystal Longe to fill the Deputy Auditor II position.  Auditor Paula Barrick said Longe has experience working as a Deputy Auditor for Charles Mix County.  Commissioners approved Longe’s employment at a rate of $16.74 an hour, effective September 9th.

Both new employees’ employment are contingent upon satisfactory background checks.

County commissioners on Tuesday also approved the hiring of Blake Neu as a temporary, part-time Inventory Specialist in the county’s Highway Department.  Neu will assist with the county’s small structure inventory at a rate of 20-dollars an hour, effective this week.  Neu’s wages are funded through the Rural Access Infrastructure Fund program.

Also on Tuesday, Lake County commissioners decided to move forward with hiring a part-time Veterans Service Officer.  The commission had been considering partnering with Moody County for a full-time position after the previous VSO resigned, but County Human Resource Specialist Shelli Gust said that Moody County isn’t interested in doing that at this time.  She told commissioners that she had received some letters of interest for the position and will start scheduling interviews for the position.
