Four area departments fight fire at wax factory in Winfred

Firefighters from four area departments battled a fire in Winfred Tuesday morning at the wax factory owned and operated by A.H. Meyer and Sons Incorporated.  Madison Fire Chief Randy Minnaert said the call came in just before 5:15 Tuesday morning of a fire in the steel structure on the west side of Main Street in Winfred.  He said the part of the building where the fire was located was the warehouse area where wax is stored and it was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.

Minnaert said that firefighters were on scene for most of the morning.  He said that no one was in the building at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.  Minnaert said that the cause of the fire is under investigation by the state Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Madison Fire Department had five trucks on scene, Wentworth had four, Ramona had two, and Nunda had one fire truck respond to the fire.Â
