To conclude the 2020 Homecoming weekend, Dakota State University is holding a commencement ceremony on Sunday, October 4th for those students who graduated in the spring or summer semester. The traditional spring commencement ceremony was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Graduates were surveyed as to their desired options for a celebration, and the greatest interest was for an in-person commencement on Homecoming weekend.

The event will be scaled back from a traditional commencement. Each attending graduate will receive tickets for four guests, two to attend in the Fieldhouse, two to attend in the Playhouse, where the event will be livestreamed.  This will maximize social distancing, and masks will be required for all attending.

About 85 graduates are expected to attend the ceremony, which starts at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Fieldhouse.  All 272 spring graduates and 103 summer graduates will be recognized at the ceremony and have their names read aloud.

The Commencement speaker will be Dr. Jim Moran, interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Dakota State.  Griffin Egner, a cyber operations major, will speak for the graduates.
