Drivers need to stay aware of deer

It is the season of cooler temperatures, harvesting, hunting…and more deer moving across roads and highways.  In the last two weeks, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office has taken eleven reports of car-deer accidents in the county.

Shawn Steward with Triple “A” South Dakota said that there are a lot of drivers hitting deer.

Steward said that deer hits are expensive.

Steward said that there are prime times when deer are on the move.

Steward said that while it may be difficult, it’s best to hit the brakes if a deer is in front of you and not try to swerve away from the animal.
