A few area communities are included as recipients of loans or grants from the state for water, wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste projects.  The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources said the Board of Water and Natural Resources has approved close to 11-million dollars for these projects.  The board met Thursday in Pierre.

The cities of Salem and Canistota have been awarded loans.  Salem is receiving a loan for close to 850-thousand dollars to make stormwater improvements, and Canistota is receiving a loan of more than two-point-four-million dollars for drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater improvements.

Grant and loan packages were awarded in our area to the communities of Canova and Crooks.  Canova is receiving 190-thousand dollars for drinking water improvements, which includes a 50-thousand dollar grant.  Crooks is receiving more than one-point-eight-million dollars for a wastewater project, which includes a 650-thousand dollar grant.

The grants and loans were awarded from DANR’s Consolidated Water Facilities Construction Program, Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Program, Clean Water State Revolving Fund Program and Solid Waste Management Program.
