Lake County Commissioners on Tuesday held first reading of an ordinance establishing a new reduced speed zone near Chester.  The ordinance establishes a speed zone of 30-miles-per-hour on 241st Street for one half mile west and east of the intersection with 464th Avenue.  According to the ordinance, the reduction in speed was warranted for the safety and welfare of travelers and pedestrians on the road because of the increased vehicular and pedestrian traffic, as well as the residences, businesses and railroad tracks adjacent to it.

Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the ordinance, as well as second reading during their next meeting on October 15th.  If all is approved, the reduced speed zone will be effective on November 6th.
