A new reduced speed zone will go into effect soon near Chester.  Lake County Commissioners on Tuesday approved the second reading of an ordinance establishing a speed zone of 30-miles-per-hour on 241st Street for one half mile west and east of the intersection with 464th Avenue.

According to the ordinance, the reduction in speed was warranted for the safety and welfare of travelers and pedestrians on the road, as well as the residences, businesses and railroad tracks adjacent to it.

The speed zone will go into effect on November 6th.

Also during their meeting Tuesday, county commissioners approved the hiring of a part-time correctional officer. Commissioners approved hiring Amy Thrun for a part-time position with no benefits at a rate of 14-25 an hour, effective October 7th.
