The Lake County Commission has approved a resolution for the county’s Highway Department to submit an application for the state’s Bridge Improvement Grant program.

Highway Superintendent Nels Nelson told commissioners during their meeting Tuesday that the application is for preliminary engineering funds for a bridge located just north of the intersection of Highway 34 and 456th Avenue.  Preliminary engineering services are required to get the bridge “shovel-ready”, which is necessary in order to be considered for the bridge replacement grant.  The resolution states that Lake County agrees to pay 50-percent match on the Bridge Improvement Grant funds.  Nelson estimated the county’s portion then to be just less than 24-thousand dollars.  The deadline for the county to submit the grant application is August 1st.

Also on Tuesday, commissioners approved Nelson to move forward with repair on a maintainer.  Nelson said the cost for the repair of the maintainer could be up to just more than 22-thousand dollars.
