City will not open Madison Aquatic Center this summer

The city of Madison is not planning to open it’s outdoor pool this summer.  The city’s Park Board recommended to the Madison City Commission that the Madison Aquatic Center be closed for the summer because of the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak.

Commissioner Kelly Johnson said the Park Board held a special meeting last week to discuss the summer status of the Aquatic Center.  He said that currently there isn’t a pool manager, and there are concerns about ways that the virus could still be spread within the facility.

Johnson said that not opening the Aquatic Center is a hard decision to have to make.

Johnson said there are other cities who have already made the decision to close their outdoor pools for this summer, and others are planning to make their decisions in the first part of May.
