City to purchase lot for future park development

The Madison City Commission has approved the purchase of a lot for the future development of a park.  During their meeting Monday, commissioners approved the purchase of a lot in the Cyber Estates development in northeast Madison.  The lot will be purchased for 36-thousand dollars from Nielson Development LLC.

The lot is located in the eastern part of the development near Northeast 11th Street and Heatherwood Avenue, adjacent to the city’s 40 foot open lot where Mayor Marshall Dennert said that sewer and water had been installed.

City Parks Supervisor Mike McGillivray told commissioners that the Park Board was concerned with the easement on the current property and also that there wasn’t much curbside available for parking.  But, he said that the board supported the purchase of the additional lot for future development of a park.

McGillivray said that it may be a few years before a park will actually be built on the property since the city just completed a large park project at Memorial Park.

McGillivray said a Park Acquisition Reserve was created a few years ago for a purchase like this.  He said that with the city purchasing the lot, it will help in the future when it applies for grants for the playground development.Â
