Madison City Commissioners this week agreed to put out a request for proposals for advanced metering infrastructure for the city.  City Utilities Director Brad Lawrence told commissioners during their meeting Monday what is happening with the city’s current meter reading system.

Lawrence said that they are looking for a system to do more than just read meters.

Lawrence said that the city will accept sealed proposals for the system.  He said state law allows for this because this is an emerging technology field and they want the companies submitting the proposals to specify what they can provide.  Bid date is set for August 4th.  Lawrence said he wants to know what the cost will be in order to prepare for next year’s budget. Â
