City commission receives update on improvement projects

Madison City Commissioners this week received an update on the city’s water system improvement projects.  Ryan Hegg, the city’s Director of Engineering and Community Development, said that Winter Contracting, LLC, the contractor on the latest project on Northwest 9th Street and Union Avenue, is off to a good start on it.

Hegg said that along with the utility work on Northwest 9th Street, the contractors are also tentatively scheduled to begin roadway preparation during the first part of October, with curb and gutter after, along with pavement.  He said Winter Contracting is planning to finish the project this fall.  Hegg said that a portion of the work in the area in front of the Elementary School will wait until next summer.

Hegg said that area on 9th Street will have a temporary surface until spring.

As far as the other projects in the city, Hegg said that Phase 1A and 1B of the Rural Development projects in the northwest area of the city are substantially complete.  He said that there are a few punch list items remaining, like the installation of some curb and gutter, asphalt paving, and the installation of black dirt and final seeding throughout the project.

The other project underway in the northeast portion of the city is Phase 2 of the city’s Rural Development projects.  Hegg said that there is still a lot of work to do on this 20-block project and the contractor, Halme, Incorporated, will need to stay on schedule to meet their estimated completion date of November 15th.
