The Madison City Commission has approved a resolution for a preliminary plat for a new development.  City Engineer Chad Comes told commissioners Monday that the preliminary plat is for the West Center Addition in northwest Madison, which is being developed by West Center Baptist Church.  Comes said the church is subdividing the land, located near the intersection of Northwest 9th Street and Highway 81.

Comes said that the plat approved by commissioners is for Phases one and two of the development.  He said that phase three of the development is also owned by the church, but there would be no development there yet.

Another resolution approved by city commissioners Monday is to request the state Department of Transportation to hire Banner Associates for bridge inspection work.  Comes told commissioners that Banner has done the inspections for the city in the past and they are requesting them to do it again this time around.  He said the inspections are done every other year.  Comes said the city is responsible for 20-percent of the cost for the engineer’s inspection services and the rest is paid for by the DOT.  He estimated it to cost the city around 12-hundred dollars.
