Chief Deputy Prorok’s Thursday Funeral Moved to the DSU Field House

The location of Thursday’s Funeral for fallen Moody County Sheriff Deputy Ken Prorok has been changed. The Funeral Service will now be held at the Dakota State University Field House, to accommodate what is expected to be a very large attendance. Parking will be limited, so officials are encouraging everyone to arrive early. There will be a livestream of the service across the street at the Dakota Prairie Playhouse for overflow.

A motorcade procession from the fieldhouse to the Prairie Queen Cemetery in Nunda will start at approximately 2:30pm Thursday. Around 1,000 law enforcement officers are expected to participate. The route will travel down S Washington Avenue before turning left on 2nd Street and exiting town to the east on 3rd Street.

Officials say the last funeral procession of this size was also held in Madison 15 years ago, for Deputy Sheriff Chad Mechels. Mechels was shot on duty in Turner County in 2009.

A visitation will be held tonight at Chester Area High School, from 5 to 8pm, with a prayer service to be held at 8pm.
