DSU Esports Annual Awards Winners

The Dakota State University Esports announced its annual awards last weekend, with the Outstanding Member of the Year, Most Improved Player of the Year, and Honorable Mentions were announced.

The Outstanding Member of the Year award winner went to Thomas Goetz, a Sophomore Cyber Operations major. Goetz joined DSU Esports as a Call of Duty player and immediately became a leader on the team, organizing practices and helping set-up game day preparations. He also leads a talk show on the Trojans Esports Twitch channel every Friday, where he talks about the latest news in the esports world.

The Most Improved Player of the Year was awarded to Carson Boyle. Boyle’s breakout moment came in the Spring 2022 when he was called up to the varsity squad. He joined the team and they finished the regular season with a record of 6-2, entering the postseason as the conference’s third overall seed. After securing a spot at finals and fighting to the championship game, DSU fell to NCAA Division I South Dakota in a heated five-game series.

Boyle was one of DSU’s outstanding performers at the event and proved his spot as a valuable member to the team.

The Honorable Mention recipients were Colby Clarkson, Mike Nowka, and Morgan Garber.
