DSU Softball Falls to Dakota Wesleyan

Dakota State softball was unable to extend their winning streak Wednesday afternoon at Cadwell Park, losing both games of a double header to Dakota Wesleyan.

DSU opened up a 5 run lead in game 1 of the double header. Hannah McFarland scored 3 runs and Rosie Philop had 2 RBI as the Trojans led 6-1 in the 6th inning. The Trojans answered with a run in the 7th, but it wasn’t enough as Wesleyan picked up an 8-7 win.

Game 2 again saw the Tigers score late to secure the win. The game was scoreless through the first two-and-half innings.  DWU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom third inning as Sophia Wietzema drilled an RBI double. Dakota State was unable to convert their scoring chances in the top fourth inning as they left bases full.

Dakota Wesleyan poured in six runs in the bottom sixth inning, with four straight scoring plays. DWU recorded 11 hits in the game compared to DSU’s four hits.

Dakota State dropped their overall record to 10-27.  Dakota Wesleyan improved to 18-25 overall record.
