Sioux Falls man sentenced in death on Lake Madison

A Sioux Falls man will spend time in jail, after a July jet ski accident that killed a girl on Lake Madison. 

Kent Duncan was charged In December with reckless boating, six months after 13-year-old Emmy Gorman’s death.

Duncan pleaded guilty on Thursday to the charge. 

According to court documents Duncan was going 35 miles an hour on an orange and black jetski. The documents say Duncan saw Emmy fall off her tube and hit the water hard, he then went to provide assistance.

A witness said she saw a black and orange jetski strike a girl on the tube then help her afterward.

Duncan was sentenced Thursday to four days in jail, 56 days of work release, and a $2000 fine.

His sentence will begin on March 7.
