Trojans Sweep Another Weekend in Conference & Extend Win Streak to Season-High Nine Games

The #11 ranked Trojan Women’s Basketball team swept yet another weekend of games, these at home in the DSU Fieldhouse over Viterbo 82-54 and Waldorf 83-51.

Friday

DSU turned up the heat in the second half of their first game this weekend and ran away with the win on their homecourt. 10 of their 15 steals came in the second half and they forced the V-Hawks into 24 turnovers. Along with the Trojans scoring six more points in the second half.

The V-Hawks kept things interesting early and refused to trail by double digits at half and they did just that. Dakota State in the end ended up being too much on both ends and the V-Hawks ran out of gas. The Trojans dominated in points off turnovers. Of the 24 turnovers Viterbo had, the Trojans managed to score 25 points

Emily McCurdy was the lone V-Hawks in double figures with 16 points. She also had a team-high seven rebounds. Gina Stefferud added nine points off the bench.

Savannah Walsdorf had a team-high 16 points and hit four threes. Two other Trojans saw double figures in the game. Tabor Teel posted 15 points off the bench to go along with a game-high three blocks. Caitlin Dyer added 14 points on 50% shooting from the field.

Saturday

On Saturday against the Warriors it was more of the same, but a hot first half instead. A commanding first half that was led by Walsdorf who had 13 of her 19 points in the first half. Going 6-for-6 inside the arc in the first half.

Miakken Vincent was part of the burst by mixing in a season-high three trifectas in the first half. Her nine points tied a career-high off the bench. DSU shot 54.3% from the field in the first half. Two other Trojans scored in double digits. Lilli Mackley and Teel both added 10 points.

Waldorf had a strong start to the game with Brooke Dial scoring their first six points and giving them their only lead a few minutes into the game. Dial finished with a team-high 16 points. The Warriors suffered from the suffocating Trojan defense.

Dakota State improves to 17-4 overall and 5-0 in North Star Athletic Association play while now riding a season-high nine-game winning streak. It marks the 10th straight win against Waldorf and raised their all-time series record to 17-2. So far through five games, the Trojans have forced four of their five NSAA opponents into 20+ turnovers. Additionally, after the weekend the Trojans have a pair of players in the Top 5 of the NAIA ranks on defense. Walsdorf sits at 5th in steals (63) and Teel is 5th in blocks (39) – all coming off the bench for Teel.
