Trojans Set to Begin Second Half of NSAA Schedule on the Road: Game Preview – #9 Dakota State vs Viterbo

The #9 ranked Trojan Women’s Basketball team hits the road to La Crosse, Wisconsin to begin the second half of the North Star Athletic Association against Viterbo.

Viterbo

The V-Hawks (8-9 overall, 3-3 NSAA) come into this game having won their last two road games and have the reigning conference Player-of-the-Week. This team matched up with the Trojans back on Jan. 19 in the DSU Fieldhouse and Dakota State came out on top 82-54.

Emily McCurdy is the reigning POTW in the conference after leading the charge in their latest wins this past week. Averaging 22 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals over the last two games. She averages 11.8 per game this season to lead the V-Hawks in scoring.

This team likes to work the ball inside when they can to get their bigs going, but is more than willing to take outside shot opportunities. This group is undefeated on their homecourt now after their latest two wins and the win to open conference play. They’ll be a bit more trouble at home and try to use their crowd energy to help propel them in the game.

Dakota State

The Trojans come in playing some of their best basketball of the year, but according to head coach David Moe, this team still has things it can improve upon. It’s a group that has certainly made its strides this season. While their hearts are set on a National Championship run this season, they’ve got their eyes directed at the task ahead – Viterbo, then Waldorf.

Savannah Walsdorf leads the Trojans in scoring at 16.1 points per game, as well as 3-pt percentage (40.2%), assists (2.4) and steals (3). Following her in the scoring department is Angela Slattery averaging 10.5 points per game.

The Trojan offense ranks first in the NSAA with 83.7 points per game in conference, which ranks 9th in the NAIA. As well as sitting 20th in the NAIA in scoring per game on the season at 80 a game.

Tipoff is set for 5:30pm with the pregame beginning at 5:15pm on Jammin Country 103.
