Trojans Return Home To Battle the Bruins: #9 Dakota State vs Bellevue
The #9 ranked Trojan Women’s Basketball team (20-4 overall, 8-0 NSAA) returns home to take on the Bellevue Bruins in the DSU Fieldhouse.
Bellevue
The Bruins (10-13 overall, 3-5 NSAA) are teetering at the moment in conference play. After winning three of their first five, the Bruins have dropped their last three games. Which marks the first three-game losing streak of the season.
Both teams struggled to shoot the ball in their first meeting this season which kicked off conference play. Neither team shot 42% or higher from the field or from beyond the arc. The only player for either team that saw double figures was Savannah Walsdorf.
During their losing streak, they’ve failed to eclipse 60 points in each game. Gabby Moore leads Bellevue in scoring with 12.9 points per game and is the only Bruin averaging double figures. Bellevue has not had luck on the road this season. Sitting at just 4-7 on the year, including back-to-back road losses.
Dakota State
The Trojans return home where they’ve played well all season long. They even hoist up more threes in front of the home crowd. Shooting 33 more threes at home than they have on the road.
DSU is looking to fine tune some things within themselves as the conference play winds down and March approaches. All while still keeping their focus on the task at hand of course. David Moe is not the kind of coach to let much of anything slip through the cracks. He and his staff know the grind of the season and the National Tournament so they know how to manage things.
The leader in scoring for the Trojans is Walsdorf with 16.5 points per game. She also leads in 3-pt% (39.3), assists (2.3) and steals (3.1). The Trojan offense has seen an uptick in scoring average in conference play. Averaging 83 points per game in eight NSAA games so far. Which leads all teams in NSAA play.
Walsdorf is nearing some Trojan history. She is 22 points away from the top spot on the all-time scoring list held by Jessi Giles who scored 1,955 points during her career from 2018-22. Walsdorf is also 13 rebounds away from being the all-time rebounding leader, held by Julie Fiegen who had 954 career rebounds from 1982-86.Â
Tipoff is set for 5:30pm with the pregame set for 5:15pm on Jammin Country 103.
