Trojans Looking to Bounce Back vs Mustangs: Game Preview – #13 Dakota State vs Morningside (Iowa)

The #13 ranked Women’s Basketball team will play in their last home game of 2023 today when they host Morningside (Iowa) in the DSU Fieldhouse.

Dakota State is currently on a two-game skid after losing both games last week. Their second two game losing spell since they opened the season 0-2. Coming into this game, they face a Mustang team that has mostly had their number over the years. Aside from their latest matchup in the NAIA Women’s Basketball First Round in Wichita, Kansas when the Trojans won 78-65. Prior, DSU had an 11-game losing streak to Morningside dating back to 2007.

Morningside

This Morningside group remains led by head coach Jamie Sale in his 22nd season. In his more than two decades leading the Mustangs, he has a 583-174 record with the team and a 662-194 career record.

The Mustangs are led in scoring by senior Alexis Spier with 13.2 points per game on 44.9% from the field and 45.9% from deep. An efficient scorer that can pose real problems if she gets hot. Followed by senior Chloe Lofstrom adding 11.2 points per game.

Morningside has hoisted up 11 more threes on the road than they have at home, but at a far less efficient rate. Shooting 38.3% at home and just 29.7% on the road.

Dakota State

The Trojans have struggled to be on the winning side of things as of late and it mainly comes from their defensive struggles. Allowing 79 points per contest in their last two losses. DSU allowed less than 70 points to opponents on average prior to last week’s games (67.4).

Dakota State is led in scoring by Savannah Walsdorf with 14.2 points per game. Followed by another Trojan scoring in double figures – Angela Slattery with 10.2 points a game.

Tonight’s game is set for tipoff at 6pm tonight with the pregame beginning at 5:45pm on Jammin Country 103.
