Trojan’s Advance to Quarterfinals with Win Over Indiana Wesleyan

The DSU Women’s Basketball will play the National Quarterfinals, after the Trojans picked up a 76-65 win over Indiana Wesleyan on Thursday night, at the NAIA National Tournament in Sioux City. The Wildcats, who were the #1 seed in the Cramer Quadrant, took the early first quarter lead before the Trojans stormed back to lead 33-30 at halftime. 

The Trojans, who played most of the game without leading scorer Savannah Walsdorf, out rebounded the Wildcats 46-29. Walsdorf played just 5 minutes in the game while dealing with an injury. Lilli Mackley helped pick up the scoring for DSU, leading the way with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Tabor Teel and Cierra Watkins came off the bench to score 13 and 12 respectively.

DSU was 11 of 26 from three point range, and converted 15 of 20 free throws. 

The Trojans will next take on Carroll College from Montana, in the quarterfinals. Carroll beat Loyola 58-55 on Thursday. DSU defeated Carroll last year in the National Tournament, 82-72.
