Mudcats top Canvoa, Madison and Colman split doubleheader

The Dell Rapids Mudcats scored three runs in the seventh inning to pull away from the Canova Gang, in a 7-2 win on Sunday afternoon. Kole Zimmerman led the Mudcats offense, going 3-for-5 with a home run and 3 RBI. Chris Regas added another home run for the Mudcats. 

Dalton Lehnen kept the Canova hitters in check, tossing 9 innings while allowing just 2 runs on 6 hits. He struck out 15 batters in the complete game win. 

The Mudcats victory also avenged their only Cornbelt League loss of the season, and gave them a two game lead for 1st place in the league standings over Canova.

The Madison Broncos and the Colman A’s split a doubleheader on Sunday. Colman took game 1 by the final of 4-1. The A’s scored all four of their runs in the 1st inning, with RBI’s from Corey Roach, Deon Entringer, Ian Barker, and Chris Meyer. Paul Clark threw a 7 inning complete game, allowing just 1 run and striking out 5. 

In game 2, Mitch McNary had three hits as the Broncos beat Colman 7-5. Colman took the early lead in the game again, going up 3-0 after the 2nd inning, but the Broncos answered with 2 runs in the 3rd and 3 in the 4th. 

McNary drove in 3 runs in the game, Greg Biagi had 2 hits and 2 RBI. Brock Minnaert threw 6 innings, and allowed just 2 earned runs, while picking up the win.

The Flandreau Cardinals jumped out to a 10-0 lead, and then held on for a wild 12-11 win over the Humboldt-Hartford Gamecocks on Sunday. Humboldt-Hartford scored 8 runs in the 3rd, and then tied the game up at 10 in the 5th inning. But Flandreau’s Calvin Hegg delivered a 2 RBI double in the bottom of the 5th to take the lead for good. 

Cam Quigley had a home run and 3 RBI for the Gamecocks. Dallas Schneiderman had a homer and drove in 5 runs for Flandreau. 

Also Sunday, Lennox won a slugfest over the Humboldt-Hartford Wood Ducks by the final of 25-19.
