Mudcats fall in 10 to Tabor at State

There will be a new Class B State Amatuer Baseball Champion this year, after Tabor walked-off

the Dell Rapids Mudcats 2-1 in ten innings on Sunday night. Nolan Carda delivered the RBI base hit in the 10th to win it for the Bluebirds. Carda also started the scoring in the 3rd inning, when his sacrifice grounder gave Tabor a 1-0 lead.

That 1-0 lead held up until the 7th inning, when Chris Reges got Dell Rapids on the board with an RBI double that scored Mark Abrahamson. But that was the only run Dell Rapids could score in the game, despite collecting 10 hits and 3 walks. Tabor starter Riley Rothschadal threw six shutout innings and struck out 11 Mudcats in the game.

Dell Rapids starter Dalton Lehnon struck out 19 batters while pitching into the 9th inning, before giving way to reliever Chris Regas, who took the loss.

The loss ends the season for the two-time defending state champions, and sends Tabor into the quarterfinals where they’ll face Lake Norden. The Lakers advanced to the next round with a 2-0 shutout of Lennox in Sunday’s other 2nd round game.

Play continues Monday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell, with Winner/Colombe vs. Mount Vernon, and Lesterville vs. Menno. On Tuesday, the Canova Gang will play their 2nd round game at 5:30 vs. Clark. That game can be heard Tuesday, on AM 1390.
